american airport today, l.a.x. in los angeles. a lone gunman pulling a semiautomatic rifle from a bag and opening fire in the middle of morning rush. families in the security line told to run take shelter wherever they could. right here in a bathroom. outside passengers fleeing, bags in toe. it happened here at terminal 3 where jet blue, spirit frontier flights l take off right at the security gate, passengers have been lined up ready to take off shoes and belts, tonight we have the latest developments here, the shooter in custody and right here on the ground, the powerful weapon he used tonight, the fbi confirming his name, 23-year-old paul anthony ciancia, and word this evening his family might have been in touch with authorities beforehand. a note found at the scene reportedly believed to have included anti-government beliefs. among his victims a tsa officer shot and killed. the first tsa officer ever killed in line of duty. these are live pictures tonight from our station in los angeles, kabc, and this evening one of the nation's busiest airports with a heavy police presence, we h

of the forecast. >>> now the latest on the deadly shooting at the los angeles airport. the gunman was dropped move by a friend who thought the 23- year-old was headed home to spend some time with his family. prosecutors said he was so intent on shooting agents. >> there will ab review of the security measures in place, not only at l.a.x. but a review of the security arrangements in other airports as well. >> police shot the suspected gunman. if he ever regains consciousness he will face charges that could carry the death penalty. >>> new changes will help you get through security faster. tomorrow a new tsa precheck will be available at concourse c checkpoint. the expansion doubles the location of passengers to access prechecked lanes and it allows preapproved travelers and easier and faster trip through security. there are already precheck lanes available on concourse d. >>> the current mayor is running, and the polls will close at 8:00 tomorrow. >>> as the problems continue with healthcare.gov, the white house is telling people to skip the site all together. there are option -- other options. it

with the breaking news out of los angeles. a gunman opens fire at l.a.x. >> the gunman is anthony ciancia. he had a net that said he wanted to kill tsa. thousands of passengers try to figure out what are they going to do. we have more on the san francisco tick moments inside terminal 3. >> reporter: a tsa officer was shot and killed by a man who was wielding what's being described as a long gun at  l.a.x.'s terminal 3. at least three others were injured and confirmed only one gunman. the gunman is in custody. >> this was a loud bang, like boom. it was a loud one. from there we all ducked down. i see nothing but things around me. >> reporter: the first report came after 9:30 local time. they set up triage and a man wearing a blue tsa uniform could be seen coming out holding up his arms stained with blood. inside the terminal the news came from an airline official. >> security in terminal 3. >> reporter: there was a huge response from airport police. officers could be seen enteri with guns drawn. terminals 1, 2 and 3 were closed. travelers were evacuated, exiting anyway they could. >> it's like w

. it will start coming this weekend in new york and los angeles. amazon announced the deal with the u.s. postal service today. it includes expanding to dallas, houston and gnarl-- new orleans. >>> well, could black friday soon be obsolete? argument -- target is the latest retailer announcing they will open earlier. it's one hour earlier than last year. many are pushing their in-store sales to thanksgiving day rather than waiting until friday. right now kmart is opening 6:00 in the morning on thanksgiving day. ?ie want to start off with a lock at maryland's most powerful radar. things are clear but that's getting ready to change and change in big way. you can see what happens basically as we go through the overnight hours still relatively dry but changes as we go through the mid-morning hours. rain showers with snow showers on the back side. flipping over quickly through that morning commute, we don't anticipate real accumulations here because ground temps should be above 40 degrees. the air temp in the upper 30s but wintry showers. it's going to make for a tough morning commute. rain showers m

halfway around the world. in pittsburgh neighbors gathering medical supplies. in los angeles u.s. veterans setting out for the storm zone to try to help on the ground. abc's chief foreign correspondent terry moren is on the ground to get help there fast. terry. >> reporter: dawn is just coming up here at the military base in manila. this is going to be one of the main staging areas for the massive relief effort under way so desperately needed. take a look at this photo from the disaster zone, children holding up signs pleading for food, water, help of any kind. right now it's the u.s. marines doing the heavy lifting. they have five giant cargo aircraft like this one right behind me and 215 marines in the initial deployment carrying all kinds of supplies, forklifts, generators, water, medical supplies, food. sanitation and hygiene supplies as well to fight the looming public health crises that faces this country. the usaid has pledged $20 million. the united nations sending out a flash appeal for help around the world. make no mistake, they understand that every hour counts. diane? >> monit

bowed. and in los angeles, tsa workers honored one of their own. >>> and next tonight, a heads up from police, just three weeks before the holiday shopping season begins. they are tracking a new type of crime, popping up across the country. it's called flash rob, a play on the term flash mob, instead of a fun loving dance it has a vandalizing twist. here's abc senior justice correspondent pierre thomas. >> reporter: these five men walking into a chicago area sports authority are about to commit the most brazen theft you may ever see. there they are running out of the store, rolling racks full of clothing, take another look. they are stealing racks of coats, it's over in less than 30 seconds. they're not done. the same thieves are believed to have targeted two other sports authority stores, this week alone. police are seeing crimes like this around the country. so called flash robs. coordinated groups of thieves, who swarm stores. the chicago area clothing store was hit last year. >> we had about 15 or 16 kids in the store before i lock the door. overwhelming sensation of just not able

, los angeles. >>> and we have more tonight on the frightening airplane emergency for hundreds of passengers after their plane had already landed in montreal. they had to use the escape shoot, a baggage truck next to the jumbo jet suddenly burst into flames. abc's david kerley shows us what happened. >> reporter: an emergency evacuation, slides deploying passengers leaping to safety. this was no small fire. it was a blaze under the 767 which had just landed. the rubber conveyor belt on a baggage loader erupting in fire. >> we're talking about fire beside a plane. >> reporter: with most of the 250 passengers still on board, the pilot of the royal air flight had to make a decision. his call? to order the emergency evacuation. >> people running everywhere. there were like -- we don't know what to do, like lost. >> reporter: some of the seven injured were hurt from jumping down the slides but the majority suffered smoke inhalation. five were taken to the hospital. as remarkable as the pictures are, the damage to the aircraft is apparently not that significant. still, canadian inves
